Weekend Update

Hello to you all out there.
Life is fluidic, and as it moves so do we.
Its a grey day here in Goshen but as the line goes "it could always be worse".
For those of you who have not ever heard of a author by the name of Daniel Quinn or of a book named Ishmael, I strongly recommend that you read this book for your own well being. I invite you all reading this to ponder your life, its focus, its purpose. Such reflection is crucial in a proactive world.

I had a smashing trip to Chicago last weekend. While I was there I managed to purchase:
two cans of Tandoori Masala
one cow tounge taco
one box of olive seed charcoal
one box of rose
one box of cherry
and one very very lovely lady by the name of Dorothy Day
(Which I still need to pay Paul for)
Last night I attended a very lovely wine and cheese gathering: small, subtle, delightful.
I start working at Oaklawn tommorrow morning at 8am.
Also I have recieved a request from some friends of mine in South Africa who are in need of many graduation gowns preferably blue or black. If you have one you would be willing to donate to them. E-mail me.

I leave saturday morning to travel to my new place of residence in Goshen.
Pray for me as I drive the worst damn car ever created by West Germans and that in the likely event that I break down that some trucker named Big Tom will not have his way with my virgin orafices.

Governor Requirements

Okay so I looked up the bylaws and apparently in order to be governor of Nebraska I must be at least thirty years of age and have to have lived five consecutive years in Nebraska prior to my running which means that after I finish seminary and go hang with Clark and maybe travis and whoever else may come in Peru, I have to move back to Nebraska and live there for five years before I can run and begin to reform Nebraska.
So when that does happen I vow to do the following but also more as I think about it:

Invest in Wind Turbines, promoting clean energy by giving tax breaks to energy efficent and clean energy providers.
Legalizing medicinal Marijuana, lowering marijuana related arrests
Continue the current negotiations with Cuba and start with Peru as well.
Work to undo the detrimental effects of Nafta (and Cafta will also be) on the Nebraskan farm economy.
Invest in Nebraska arts i.e. musicians, visual artist, writers, poets, etc
Encourage economic growth.
Legalize hemp production in Nebraska thus creating a textile market, (Which Nebraska had before DuPont lobbyed in Washington to eliminate it thus giving them a monopoly)
Reinforce Enviromental Conservation laws.
Make casinos, lotteries and all forms of gambling illegal.
Encourage public smoking bans
Reinvest money into public education
Encourge Ethanol production by tax incentives to farmers and make manditory lower price on ethanol over unleaded gas (modeled after Iowa's law)
Encourage city growth and development.
Ban corporate ownership over land particularly in western Nebraska.
Negociate deeding additional land to the current native American reservations in nebraska and use state funding to pay restitution to Native Americans and put money into assisting in developing native american land.
Place heavy restrictions on draining the Platte River for irrigation use
Preserve more habitat space for the migration of Sandhill Cranes, and appeal to the other states along their migratory path to ban the hunting of them and the destruction of habitats in their respective states.
Public health iniatives.
Tourism encouragement
Education incentives.
Homestead intiatives.

Hookahs and Campaigns

I had a most excellent time yesterday with my very excellent friends Crit and Jessy. Upon our discovery of a hookah bar in Louisville, we of course had to sample their fine shisha. Cherry was the flavor of the night although the cappacino sounded interesting. I found myself facing a whirlwind of emotions. While I am very glad that I was able to spend time with my three friends, Crit, Jessy, and Shisha, its most unfortuate that we didn't all hangout sooner in transcendent bliss. Perhaps its for the best, for Shisha is a tempting mistress that can easily intoxicate me with her aroma and render me helpless against her. But looking past shisha and focusing on Crit and Jessy who are two of the most wicked awesome people I know. Furthermore, their encouragement had aroused the politician in me. That being said, I hereby declare my run as a green party canidate for governor of Nebraska (when I am of a legal age to do so). That being said, vote green and God bless Nebraska!

The Weekend

So Tommorrow I'll be driving up through Indiana to Goshen where I'll stop approxmately 10 minutes (If Clark ever gives me the house address) to drop off my stuff, then I'll race up to Michigan for a wedding rehersal in the evening followed by Paul and Sarah's wedding in the morning, then a drive back down to Louisville that evening, and be at church in the morning...dear God!

Ah, its so hard to believe its been a whole freakin year that I've lived in Louisville. Memories...well anyways I say fairwell to my current place of residence as I pack up and prepare to move out in a week and a half. Then Onward and Upward to Goshen. Wait...Goshen? Well its not all bad.

I get so annoyed with how much violence is romantized in the Chronicals of Narnia. Anyone who refuses to fight is a coward, according to Lewis. If I could change one thing about the books it would be that.

*I, in no way would actually poke C.S. Lewis in the eyeball for three reasons: (1) I'm a pacifist, (2) C.S. Lewis is a good writer despite my disagreements with him, and (3) he is dead and poking a dead eyeball would feel gross.

What exists after life ends?

I view the after life as such: When we are infants, we are alive. We can interact, think, and perform the basic skills needed to survive. However we don't really remember our infancy. Its kind of like a haze where bits a pieces come through but not the whole picture. Its preporatory for our life, where we are realized and can retain the bulk of our memories for the remainder of it. I see an after life in the same regards. Our life on Earth is like our infancy, i.e. being alive, interacting, thinking, yet not fully self realized. When we die, we shed all the petty selfish thoughts of surviving and truly LIVE just as we did from the transistion from infancy to childhood and ultimately adulthood. I think life on Earth is merely our infancy in terms of our actually existance. It is when we die that we truly begin to live. And just as we are infants we cannot fully grip what we will become, yet we have glimpses, I think the same holds true for ourselves on Earth.
